About Homeopathy

What is Classical Homeopathy

Homeopathy is from the Greek meaning similar suffering.  Classical Homeopathy is a therapeutic system that was developed 220 years ago by Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician who observed, through experimentation, that quinine, which was used to treat malaria, produces the same symptoms as malaria, an example of the principle that like cures like.  Hahnemann found that by diluting and succussing (shaking and striking the vial) he could rid the substance of its toxic properties and bring out its curative effects.

Hahnemann said that the 'untunement' of the Vital Force was the cause of disease.  Homeopathy does not treat disease, it treats the untunement of the vital force.  The Vital Force is that which animates the body- the difference between a live body and a dead body- so to speak.  He said that disease exists on this dynamic plane and therefore our medicines must be dynamic. Standard western medicine is based on processes that can be observed directly on the natural plane and quantified (such as through lab tests) and uses drugs in a crude/material form.

Three major characteristics of homeopathy that distinguish it from allopathy (standard western medicine), in practice, are homeopathy's employment of a minuscule dose, the choice of the remedy on the basis of similarity of symptoms to that of the individual and the fact that homeopathy treats an individual and not a disease or diagnosis.

How it Works-The Basics

An new, stronger, dissimilar disease will suspend the existing disease while it extinguishes the new one.  However, if the new disturbance is similar/homeopathic to the existing disease, the body’s effort to extinguish the new one will also extinguish the old one.  A homeopathically chosen remedy is a facsimile of a ‘new disturbance’ that is homeopathic- chosen to match the individual’s  symptoms and thereby enable the body to extinguish the old similar disease without presenting any material threat to the body, but rather stimulating the body on the dynamic level.  Standard Western drugs are a 'new disturbance' that is dissimilar to the disturbance, therefore they suspend or suppress symptoms until they are metabolized by the body and/or more of the drug is ingested.

Symptoms and Disease--  Health and Healing

When the vital force is disrupted or “untuned”, the processes of the body are disrupted and symptoms of this dis-ease appear.   These symptoms- the language of the Vital Force, if you will, are the guide to a suitable choice for a remedy.  The influence of a well-chose remedy can last for months, in a chronic case, stimulating the vital force to make the necessary corrections in the mind and body.  In contrast, pharmaceuticals must be given frequently to continue to suppress symptoms.

In homeopathic thought, health can be defined as freedom from that which limits us from pursuing the “higher purposes of our existence”.  As healing proceeds, there will be fewer limitations.

What can be treated with Homeopathy

This dynamic system is used to stimulate the body to heal chronic and acute conditions and traumas- mental, emotional, and physical.  It has been used successfully in epidemics, to heal and to prevent disease.  Homeopathy has gained recognition in some countries for it's tremendous success in treating epidemics, such as the cholera epidemic in Italy in the 1800's as well as one in Ohio, and the 1918 influenza epidemic in the US.  It is still used widely in India for such epidemics with tremendous success.  It is also holistic, considering and acting on the whole person.  Classical Homeopathy is a safe mode of treatment for pregnant women and offers special benefits to the unborn.

Homeopathy is Based on Law
Homeopathy is based on law- the laws of cure, action, quantity and dose, quantity, quality, use, disease development, proving, repetition of dose for cure and repetitions of dose for proving, etc.
